Roisin Golding B.Ac MBAcC
London acupuncturist Roisin Golding is a registered acupuncturist with the British Acupuncture Council and has more than twenty four years experience as an acupuncture practitioner.
My Acupuncture Training
I started my full time four year acupuncture training at ICOM, West Sussex, in 1983. The course covered Western medical sciences including anatomy, physiology, pathology, as well as Chinese medical theory. I qualified with a Bachelor of Acupuncture, B.Ac. I have continued to research and learn more about acupuncture and complementary therapies ever since. Today I am a highly trained acupuncturist with 20 plus years experience and I share that experience through my London acupuncture clinic and through teaching post-graduate acupuncture courses to acupuncture practitioners here and abroad.
After becoming a qualified acupuncturist I undertook further studies (1990) in traditional Chinese herbs (pre-formulated, TCM ) and in 1989, Tui Na (Chinese massage), and have attended many post-graduate acupuncture courses in Beijing and London. My continual professional development meant that I have attended many courses on related topics, such as diet and nutrition, as well as on skills directly related to acupuncture practice.
Expertise in Acupuncture
As an acupuncturist I am interested in the whole picture, in how one organ or meridian system relates to another, and how you relate within yourself to your emotions and the deeper aspects of your psyche. I am also interested in how attuned you are within your environment: are your sleep/wake patterns in line with night and day? How do the various seasons affect your energies? Are your digestive system, hormonal patterns, moods etc. moving and changing in a harmonious ebb and flow with life? Understanding this and how to balance it is where I believe my expertise lies.
However, I was also named as one of a small group of 'international acupuncture experts' in a research paper (on the nature of deqi during acupuncture treatment) submitted by Dr. Hugh MacPherson. I am also internationally recognised as an expert on classical acupuncture through the world-wide distribution of my book "The Complete Stems and Branches: Time and Space in Traditional Acupuncture."
Professional Acupuncture Association
I am a registered member of the British Acupuncture Council, MBAcC, the lead body for acupuncture in the UK. The BAcC represents only those professional acupuncturists who have undertaken extensive training and who abide by a code of ethics. If you need to contact the British Acupuncture Council you can phone them on 020 8735 0400.
I am also committed to maintaining and enhancing high standards of training in acupuncture. I was involved early on with acupuncture regulation and was a council member for the International Register of Oriental Medicine and the Council For Acupuncture, both of which preceded the British Acupuncture Council. I subsequently became a member of the working group on acupuncture regulation for the present British Acupuncture Council.
I am a passionate believer that patients deserve the best acupuncture treatment. I believe that acupuncture training needs to be substantial and needs to include an in-depth study of the holistic concepts at the heart of Chinese medical theory in addition to western medical sciences. In line with my commitment to the highest standards of training in acupuncture, I have written a text book on acupuncture theory and practice called The Complete Stems and Branches: Time and Space in Traditional Acupuncture, published by Elsevier.
I also provide post-graduate training to qualified acupuncture practitioners.
NLP Practitioner
I am now also a fully certified NLP practitioner. My interest in NLP developed in the early '80's. I have attended NLP training courses over the years since then and have become a practitioner this year. See NLP therapy for more information.
Writer on Acupuncture and Alternative Medicine
For several years I wrote a fortnightly column on alternative medicine for the Los Angeles Times Syndicate and these articles were distributed throughout the United States as well as to forty five countries world-wide. At the time I was also a full time acupuncturist. Writing the articles meant that I had to research many different holistic therapies. By doing that I gained a lot of knowledge in the wider field of alternative and holistic medicine.
Since then I have written a text book for the acupuncturist, The Complete Stems and Branches: Time and Space in Traditional Acupuncture, and published by Elsevier. It covers the philosophpy and practical applications of Han dynasty daoist acupuncture.
